Herodotus once said in peace, sons bury their fathers. In war, fathers bury their sons. What a waste. Personally I believe that Man has no right to send young men and women to war. The choice should be handled by a woman. A man has never known what it’s like giving birth to a child it’s that invisible string that connects mother and child. Wars never confirm who’s right; they only confirm who’s left. I say those politicians sending our men and women to fight for our country at the expense of their life should be given a gun and dropped in the center of battlefield. I’d Like to see a congressman’s son/daughter out there fighting for a country, that is too self centered to acknowledge that while they’re sleeping like rocks ,a mothers child is out fighting for his life and over problems he never had any say over anyways. So for all you war hawks out there. Tomorrow when you wake up take a good look at your husband wife child. Hold your new borns tight. Because one day they might just walk out that door..And never come back.
After close reading of your post I am in agreement with much of it. War is certainly overrated by the media and a blight on our species. I think your two quotes are certainly true on many levels. However in my opinion there are times when war may result in peace. To have a war that results in peace the one thing you must not be fighting is religion, because even those who are rational and intelligent may become the most radical and vicious solders if they think their religion is being threatened. Even if only a small amount of thought could tell that the war was pointless. In World War II the Americans fought and army that, while strong, would surrender and were not fighting for "god". Therefore the victory was permanent and it is extremely unlikely that Germany will ever arise in arms again. Wars may bring peace yet most don't. I also don’t think that the choice over whether or not to go to war should be left solely to women. In America we strive for equality and that is not it.
ReplyDeleteAshley I enjoy your quote, it's very persuasive in terms of relating it to real life examples but also very logic. I also agree how we as people should have the right to make the decision to enter war. It shouldn't be depended on other people to make our decisions of wanting to be in war, or not knowing what our emtions will turn out to be. And I like how your tone seems to be very honest, as if you were in the situation.
ReplyDeleteI feel that your account is unfair. You said that while men shouldn't be able to make this decision that women should, well does anyone want to fight in a war? Nobody, the only reason we do now is because we have to. After all how else are we going to maintain our interests in middle eastern oil reserves.
